PS Portal is a specialized Remote Play gadget, so it’s not surprising to observe it becoming the leading platform for this feature. However, it highlights the comprehensive success of the accessory, which is currently possessed by roughly 5% of all PS5 owners in the USA.

Sony has recently enhanced the functionality of the extremely popular handheld, permitting PS Plus Premium subscribers to stream games straight to it via the cloud.

This eliminates the necessity for a PS5 entirely, which means you can engage with over 2,800 games on the device.

In a conversation with Tech Radar, Senior Product Development Manager Takuro Fushimi shared some intriguing insights regarding the unit:

“Our statistics indicate that PS Portal users are more involved than non-users. [The] PS Portal has now become the most commonly used device for PS5 Remote Play, outpacing mobile PC, PS5, and PS4.”

None of this is particularly shocking given the tailored nature of the PS Portal – if you acquired it, you likely did so for Remote Play – but as previously mentioned, it illustrates how pervasive the accessory has proven to be.

What’s genuinely captivating is to reflect on our surveys before the accessory’s launch.

Back in 2023, 60% of the nearly 6,000 individuals we surveyed indicated they intended to avoid purchasing the device altogether, with 33% of that group stating they had “no interest” in it.

However, just last week in a new survey, those figures had reversed: around 51% of our audience reported they now owned the handheld, with 32% admitting they activate it at least weekly.
