Matt Smith is on the verge of venturing into a universe distant and different with Star Wars: Starfighter. Set to release in 2027, this forthcoming Star Wars film is already in development, but the ex-Doctor Who star will only be joining the cast in December.
He disclosed this during a conversation at A Rabbit’s Foot. “We are in the midst of seeking out a costume, and sometimes you only realize your fondness for an outfit after wearing it a few days,” he comments, explaining how he collaborates with costume designers to create the perfect appearance for a character.

This project is the latest in a long sequence of franchises that Smith has successfully participated in. Following his role as the legendary Doctor in Doctor Who, he moved on to feature in the Terminator series and Game of Thrones, currently appearing in the ongoing House of the Dragon. He’s had a fleeting encounter with Marvel in the unsuccessful Morbius, but let’s refrain from discussing that.
Star Wars: Starfighter represents yet another shift for the franchise, featuring Ryan Gosling and set five years after The Rise of Skywalker. All narrative elements have been closely guarded, although from the title, we infer it may center around a pilot or two.
Shawn Levy, known from Deadpool and Wolverine, is at the helm. Star Wars: Starfighter is slated to launch into cinemas on May 28, 2027.
