Exceptional animation requires patience, and that is particularly true for anything with the caliber of the enchanting KPop Demon Hunters. Netflix and Sony’s vibrant blend of pop tunes and fantastical adventure has taken the globe by surprise, paving the way for a sequel. Unfortunately, the next installment won’t be available for a while, but fans understand this delay is for the best.

Currently, it is believed that Kpop Demon Hunters 2 won’t be released before 2029. Meanwhile, the film has become Netflix’s most popular film ever, dominating the box office with sing-along events aplenty globally.

Although 2029 feels distant, it’s crucial that Huntrix’s forthcoming installment is executed flawlessly. “I’m somewhat relieved they’re taking their time instead of rushing it out. High-quality content necessitates time to develop,” states a Reddit user upon seeing the news.

“The initial film took seven years from idea to premiere. In comparison, four years is relatively swift,” comments another. “I may feel irritated about the wait, but I sincerely want them to invest whatever time is necessary to avoid overburdening staff, and thus release the finest version of the product they aim to create.”

Individuals are wishing that the extended timeline will motivate the creative team to steer clear of clichés as well. “I DON’T want to witness Rumi’s father or a Huntrix origin tale, or any other uninspired corporate Hollywood sequel,” adds another Reddit user. “I desire to see something genuinely innovative, like Huntrix battling a sentient ice cream snowstorm on Mars using opera melodies or whatever.”

The original film indeed took nearly a decade to appear on our screens, with creator and co-director Maggie Kang first contemplating the idea in 2018. Ultimately, Sony embraced the project, followed by Netflix as the distribution platform. In June of this year, Kpop Demon Hunters debuted on the platform, quickly turning into a phenomenon, establishing a devoted fanbase ready to wait as long as necessary.
