The era of Halo: Infinite is drawing to an end. Microsoft and Halo Studios have unveiled that the forthcoming significant update, Operation: Infinite, will be its final one. This revelation was made on Friday during Halo Studios’ Halo: Infinite livestream.

In a communication shared on the official Halo website, Halo Studios expressed gratitude to the community for their support of Infinite. The team also mentioned that this choice was made to enable the developers to concentrate on “several Halo titles currently in progression.” This detail is neither new nor unexpected, as Microsoft has been indicating for over a year that numerous new Halo games are in the works.

“With several Halo titles in development, we will require our entire team’s collective focus to provide new experiences with the same dedication and care that our community has shown us,” the statement reads. “While we remain dedicated to supporting Halo Infinite moving forward, Operation: Infinite represents the final substantial content update currently scheduled.”

The sole Halo title confirmed to be under development at this time is Halo: Campaign Evolved, a reimagining of the classic Halo that will bring the franchise to PlayStation 5 for the first occasion. Separately, rumors have circulated regarding a live-service Halo game, which remain unverified at this time. Should those reports prove accurate, that game might serve as the spiritual successor to Halo Infinite.

Earlier this month, Sandy Peterson illuminated some details regarding the Halo MMO from Age of Empires developer Ensemble Studios which was scrapped in 2008. According to Peterson, that venture never materialized as the then-head of Xbox, Don Mattrick, terminated it to safeguard his stock bonuses.

Master Chief creator Marcus Lehto recently remarked that the Halo remake “warms my heart,” whereas another former Halo developer criticized some alterations in the remake.
