By “We apologize for extending the timeframe”
It’s been speculated for some time, and now Rockstar Games has officially validated the information.
GTA 6 will not be launching in May 2026 as initially scheduled, with the game now moving to November 19th, 2026. In a brief announcement on social media today, the firm expressed regret for “extending the timeframe” beyond the previous date.
“We apologize for extending the timeframe on what we recognize has been a lengthy wait, but these additional months will permit us to complete the game with the level of refinement you have come to anticipate and merit.”
“We would like to express our gratitude once again for your understanding and encouragement. Although the wait is somewhat longer, we are tremendously enthusiastic for players to delve into the expansive state of Leonida and to revisit modern-day Vice City.”
Interestingly, this updated release date for GTA 6 now places it just four days following the 25th anniversary of Xbox, which may compel Microsoft to alter plans for any events scheduled around that date.
There’s been conjecture that titles like Halo: Campaign Evolved or Fable might have been postponed until November 15th to commemorate the anniversary, so it will be intriguing to see how Xbox’s release calendar aligns now that GTA 6 has positioned itself during what is typically a very hectic timeframe.
Here’s hoping we won’t encounter any further postponements for this one – November 2026 should provide ample time!
