It’s the fashionable topic at the moment!
Microsoft is genuinely expanding its entire Xbox Play Anywhere initiative currently, particularly with the recent launch of the ROG Xbox Ally handheld, and it appears that Sony may be gearing up to undertake something alike with PlayStation.
There has been considerable discussion today regarding new icons that were found in connection with a “cross-buy” feature that would reportedly function between PS5 and PC titles, first revealed in a Twitter update last night:
Renowned informant billbil-kun has also disclosed through Dealabs Magazine that these icons certainly do exist and were seemingly incorporated into the PlayStation site in June 2025, implying they’re being prepared for a forthcoming feature.
More coverage on this matter can be found over at our affiliated site Push Square:
Of course, there’s virtually no possibility of Sony including Xbox within this cross-buy program (can you imagine if that occurred?!), but it’s intriguing to note that Xbox Play Anywhere is igniting a comparable concept within Sony – or at least, that seems to be the case.
Observers have highlighted that Sony has previously implemented this with the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita, so it remains to be determined precisely what this “cross-buy” feature will entail – it likely pertains to PS5 and PC games, but perhaps it’s aimed at a forthcoming handheld to rival the ROG Xbox Ally as well? Only time will reveal the answer.
In any case, this is likely a positive development for the average buyer. With Xbox and PlayStation advocating for a cross-buy service, it should facilitate greater access to games across various platforms without needing to purchase them for each device you possess. The more publishers embrace “playing anywhere,” the more beneficial it is for all of us!
