Update []:

Examinations of the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection’s latest PS5 update validate a decrease in input lag – though it is still not sufficient.

In specialist Nigel Woodall’s earlier tests, he measured the input lag in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 specifically at approximately ~108ms. After the latest patch, it has been reduced to about ~91ms.

While it’s an improvement, with Xbox Series X clocking in at approximately ~51ms and even the Switch 2 at around ~73ms, there’s still considerable room for enhancement here.

Original Story: An updated patch for the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is currently available on PS5 and PS4, significantly lowering input lag across the compilation’s entire game library.

We will have to wait for professional evaluations to ascertain the extent of the difference it has made to the ~100ms latency recorded at launch, but initial impressions indicate that the games undoubtedly do feel more responsive with the update applied.

The patch includes all of the following rectifications and enhancements:

  • Input latency advancements across all titles (PS4/PS5)
  • Enhanced audio buffer for online gameplay
  • Resolved issues with connection filter settings malfunctioning
  • Multiple fixes for the Fatality Timer option
  • Combos are now included in the moves list for applicable titles
  • Correction for MK3 (Genesis) cheat menus not unlocking effectively
  • Restored absent audio in 32X MKII
  • Extra improvements to MK4
  • Fixed problem causing UMK3 to restart after Scorpion’s fatality
  • General stability enhancements for Genesis games
  • Pause button hold duration reduced by 50%
  • One-Button Fatalities introduced for all arcade titles
  • General stability updates for the Music Player
  • Minor localization adjustments
  • Some corrections for MK Trilogy Training Mode

This is clearly a swift reply to the extensive feedback developer Digital Eclipse has received, and should resolve some of the more evident issues players have faced.

Nonetheless, as noted earlier this week, numerous players are unhappy with the AI in the included arcade games, which stays true to the original gameplay but isn’t always particularly engaging due to its interpretation of your inputs.

It will be intriguing to see if the team addresses this and develops alternative settings to lessen the overall challenge in the games. Clearly, not everyone is enjoying the experience, as Sony has even started accepting refund requests.
