Numerous inquiries arise regarding the future of Xbox as a label, especially with titles like The Outer Worlds 2 and its flagship shooter, Halo, arriving on PlayStation 5. Reports suggest that Microsoft is developing the forthcoming generation of Xbox; however, the prospects appear bleak. Despite Xbox’s perceived downturn, a notable video game analyst asserts that this does not imply the consoles are obsolete.

Rhys Elliott’s Alinea Insight newsletter has disclosed the projected sales for PlayStation 5 games in October 2025, highlighting two major success stories: Battlefield 6, EA Sports FC 26, and Ghost of Yotei, with sales of 3.2 million, 3 million, and 2.7 million, respectively. The cumulative sales of nearly 9 million prompted Elliott to comment, “AAA games, live services, and single-player experiences are still flourishing on consoles. The ‘CoNsOlE iS DeAd’ narrative is becoming tiresome. Xbox, as a console, is indeed waning, but let’s not stretch that too far, shall we?”

Publishing Xbox titles on PlayStation 5 has already yielded benefits for Microsoft. Several of Microsoft’s previously exclusive games topped the PlayStation sales rankings earlier this year.

Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto 5 both secured spots in the top 10, at fourth and seventh places, respectively. This is largely attributed to a steady influx of new content through Minecraft expansions and GTA Online. Furthermore, EA Sports claimed three of the top 10 positions with FC 26, FC 25, and Madden NFL 26. Take-Two’s NBA 2K26 occupied the fifth position with 564,000 copies sold for the month.

The top 10 best-selling PS5 games for October 2025, along with their estimated sales from Alinea Insight, are listed below.
