Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Update Announced, Here Are The Patch Notes

Online Arcade is also “on the horizon”

Digital Eclipse unveiled its Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection this week, and while it serves as a comprehensive history lesson, the team is already strategizing on enhancing specific features.

This commences with a patch being released today on Steam, with “other platforms” to follow shortly next week. This update will include audio enhancements, upgrades for Mortal Kombat 4, and various stability improvements for the Genesis titles.

Here’s the complete overview of this latest hotfix from the official Steam game page, and “additional corrections” are anticipated to be tackled in the upcoming days through “another update”.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection – Hotfix (On the horizon)

The subsequent issues have been resolved in this hotfix update:

  • Enhanced audio buffer for online gameplay
  • Restored missing audio in 32X MKII
  • General enhancements to MK4
  • Resolved issue causing UMK3 to restart after Scorpion fatality
  • Overall stability upgrades for Genesis titles
  • Pause button hold duration cut by 50%
  • One-Button Fatalities implemented for all arcade titles
  • General stability upgrades to Music Player

If you missed our review, the team has also provided an outline for a forthcoming update for “lobbies and online play”, which includes the Online Arcade, described as “on the horizon”. This mode has also been elaborated on the official FAQ page:

We will introduce Online Arcade, a framework that enables you to create lobbies, select players, and rotate games tailored to your private group of friends. We’re finalizing the user interface details for these features currently.

Will Online Arcade enable players to form private lobbies for online gameplay?

Online Arcade will provide players the chance to set up private or public rooms, choose the games they wish to play, and invite friends to join. Each room can accommodate up to 16 players, and multiple games can be played at the same time; envision it as your personal Mortal Kombat gaming parlor, brimming with just your favorite games. For individual games within the room, players can engage in a classic arcade “winner stays” queue format or simply opt to spectate.

‍This Online Arcade function is significantly more advanced than Quick Match and surpasses what Digital Eclipse has accomplished in its previous titles, necessitating further testing both internally and through external partners before it becomes available for players. We anticipate this feature will be incorporated through an update within a few weeks post-launch, but this is subject to internal and first-party approval timelines, which may fluctuate among platforms.

A new feature named The Khronicle of the Realms will also be included in the upcoming weeks. Here’s a comprehensive overview of this:

“Furthermore, in the weeks that follow the launch, The Krypt will be expanded with a new attribute: The Khronicle of the Realms. This distinctive illustrated history elucidates and examines the monumental conflicts showcased in the first four arcade games, offering fans a clear and concise record of the struggles among Outworld, Earthrealm, Edenia, and beyond. This will be integrated in a future update at no additional cost.”

Regarding crossplay support, although it won’t be available at launch and the team is “not committing to including cross-play”, once matches on the same system are operating smoothly, it will take a “re-evaluation” to determine if cross-play is “practical”. The developer is also investigating ranked matches.
