Significant lineage behind hopeful game

- by Sammy Barker

Were you thrilled by Loulan: The Cursed Sand’s launch trailer earlier today? You and countless others.
You might not be astonished to discover that former Sony Santa Monica, FromSoftware, and PlatinumGames expertise is driving the project, then.
Here’s what Game Director Hongwen Huai remarked on the PS Blog:
“Our core team consists of experienced gamers from the ‘80s and ‘90s. We grew up engaging with action games and drew immense inspiration from icons like the original God of War and arcade action titles. Numerous team members have contributed to action projects at studios in the US and Japan, including Santa Monica Studio, FromSoftware, and PlatinumGames. We’re genuinely passionate about this genre and committed to extending its limits.”

Huai himself was a gameplay programmer on both God of War and God of War Ragnarok, meaning he understands a thing or two about exceptional character action encounters.
The game itself sounds incredibly intriguing, delving into the forgotten realm of Loulan.
In it, you’ll take on the identity of the Cursed Sand, a bony warrior capable of shifting between sand and skeletal forms.
Sony is backing the game through its China Hero Project, and it’s evident it has found a potential gem here.
Huai wrapped up:
“With this initiative, we aspire to portray the allure and mystery of ancient Loulan through a vintage top-down camera angle. Our objective is to fuse classic arcade-style brawling with contemporary gameplay advancements – such as the distinctive interaction between the main character and his sandblade. We sincerely hope players will relish the adventure.”
No launch date is linked to this one just yet, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
