Earlier this year, Halo Studios and Microsoft engaged in an uncommon act within the gaming sector by granting approval for a fan-created Halo-inspired game, Spartan Survivors, to proceed. Now, Spartan Survivors has transitioned to Steam, as announced by developer Bathrobe.

Spartan Survivors is available for free on Steam, which was one of the stipulations imposed on the project when Halo Studios gave their endorsement. Another of the requirements included a legal disclaimer on the game’s store pages and within the credits, which explicitly states that this project is not an official Halo game nor associated with Halo Studios or Microsoft in any manner.

Bathrobe describes the game as a roguelike shooter that merges elements of Halo and Bullet Heaven. Gamers can take on the role of either Master Chief or the Arbiter as they battle waves of Covenant and Flood adversaries. Currently, the game is exclusively available on PC, but a port for Xbox Series X|S is anticipated in the future.

During the Halo World Championships, Halo Studios officially revealed Halo: Campaign Evolved, a contemporary version of the original Halo which will be the first Halo release to come to PlayStation 5. Furthermore, Halo Studios has indicated that all upcoming Halo releases will support cross-platform play.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2026. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Halo next year, Microsoft will host Halo Fest in Seattle in December 2026.
