Amazon announced a series of job reductions in its gaming sector earlier this week, and it seems these reductions are impacting the group behind New World: Aeternum. Following the recently launched Season 10: Nighthaven update, no further content will be introduced for New World: Aeternum.
The notification was posted on the official game website by the developers at Amazon Games Orange County. This does not imply that the game will go offline immediately, and the developers noted it will remain operational until 2026. Beyond that timeframe, there are no certainties. However, there is a slight comfort for players, as the Nighthaven update will be offered for free.
“The newly released Season 10 and Nighthaven update will be the concluding content offering for New World on PC and consoles,” the developers’ statement reads. “It is only after careful deliberation that we have come to this conclusion. To show our gratitude, the New World community, for your support throughout the years, we have made the Nighthaven release accessible to you at no cost. To ensure all New World players have the chance to experience this content, we have also made Rise of the Angry Earth free for all PC players.”
New World: Aeternum will continue to be available on PlayStation Plus for Extra and Premium members, but even the developers are uncertain when this arrangement will conclude. During the game’s new stage, bug fixes and quality-of-life enhancements will persist, and players can still acquire and download the game. World bosses, bonus weeks, and “some seasonal events” will continue to occur, but holiday events are now canceled.
The development team also affirmed that it will “provide at least six months’ notice prior to implementing any alterations that affect your ability to play New World: Aeternum.”
