This week, we have thrilling news for enthusiasts of fighting games. Edia is collaborating with Takara Tomy to bring back the 3D fighting game franchise Battle Arena Toshinden on contemporary platforms.

This encompasses Battle Arena Toshinden (1995), Battle Arena Toshinden 2 (1995), and Battle Arena Toshinden 3 (1996). The intention is to launch versions of these games between “fiscal [year] 2026 and 2027”. Here’s the formal statement:

“We plan to commence development of versions of contracted titles for contemporary consoles, with a release target between fiscal 2026 and 2027. We will leverage our accumulated expertise in porting and commercializing retro games to further our product strategy, striving to develop offerings that are not merely ports but also resonate with numerous fans. Additional information regarding the product lineup will be shared as it becomes available.”

No platforms have been disclosed yet, but Edia is the same entity responsible for crowdfunded revivals and Switch launches like Valis: The Fantasm Soldier.

Battle Arena Toshinden initially debuted on the PlayStation in 1995, coinciding with the Tekken franchise, and is presently marking its 30th anniversary. As our colleagues at Time Extension emphasize, there was even a 2D Game Boy adaptation in 1996

Are you eager for versions of the original three 3D titles? Did you have the chance to play any of them back in the days? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
