There’s a plethora of new elements!

Halo: Campaign Evolved has been introduced as a significant remake of the original Halo game arriving in 2026, which naturally implies that the majority of this Halo journey will consist of revamped content from the original release. Nevertheless, Halo Studios is seizing the chance to incorporate a wealth of new material into the first Halo – and it’s elaborated on all the new additions in a recent blog entry.
The most considerable aspect of this new content is a selection of prequel missions set to unfold before the principal Combat Evolved narrative. In total, there are three additional missions available, showcasing “new settings, characters, and adversaries” – along with new interactions between Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.
Xbox mentions “we’ll learn more about [those missions] very shortly” – so in that case, what else is new? Well, the team is introducing an optional sprint feature that wasn’t available in the initial Halo – alongside “nine more renowned weapons from throughout the Halo series”, the capacity to commandeer vehicles and the possibility to “operate the Covenant Wraith tank for the first time in Halo: Combat Evolved”.
While there’s a generous amount of new elements present, the team emphasizes that it’s “exercised great caution to avoid modernizing merely for modernity’s sake.” Here’s some additional insight into what they intend by this:
“Safeguarding the Halo essence implies the team has exercised great caution to avoid modernizing purely for modernity’s sake. It’s not about reconstructing Halo: Combat Evolved’s storyline and environments to ‘align’ with a roster of current games, but rather ensuring that its original essence has evolved to cater to contemporary players. Every modification has been evaluated by the same inquiry: Does this still resonate as Halo?”
