In some remarkably significant industry information this week, Microsoft declared yesterday that the Halo series would be arriving on PlayStation 5 in 2026, featuring a new Unreal Engine 5 remake of Master Chief’s initial campaign.

Though there have been speculations for quite a while about this legendary series transitioning to other console platforms, it is now confirmed. Unsurprisingly, the announcement has triggered various emotions and responses across the gaming community.

On the Nintendo side, certain fans online are already advocating for the celebrated first-person shooter series to make its way to the Switch 2.

While there hasn’t been any statement from Xbox regarding this, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has made a note about how Xbox is indeed willing to back the Switch 2 moving ahead. He also pointed out the “exceptional support” Microsoft’s gaming sector has received from Nintendo.

Here’s what he stated about this during a recent conversation with Famitsu, per a rough translation:

“We are striving to reduce the barrier to entry for individuals wishing to engage with our games through services like Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Game Pass. However, if there are individuals desiring to experience our games on the PlayStation 5 or the Nintendo Switch 2, we would be thrilled for them to play our titles on those platforms. In that sense, we have received outstanding support from both Sony Interactive Entertainment and Nintendo.”

Spencer has previously indicated this year how the Xbox team is “truly eager” to support the Switch 2, so now that Nintendo’s latest hybrid system has launched (and more developers are finally obtaining their development kits), it’s possible we may see additional announcements in the future.

Over the past year, Xbox has also expressed its desire to introduce more games to “more platforms”, even securing a deal in 2023 to resurrect the Call of Duty series on Nintendo devices. They have also launched titles such as Grounded and Pentiment on the Switch.

Which titles from the Xbox catalogue would you like to see on the Switch 2? What are your opinions on the Halo series making its way to the PS5? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
