Greetings, and welcome to yet another installment of Box Art Brawl!

Previously, we examined Hey You, Pikachu! on the N64, and while both versions didn’t garner much affection, the North American edition prevailed with 61% of the votes.

This week, we return to the Metroid series with Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the exceptional GameCube sequel to the original by Retro Studios. Launched in 2004, it introduced the now-legendary Dark Samus into the franchise and displayed a remarkable dual-world setting where a dangerous species dubbed the ‘Ing’ assaults Samus and deprives her of her fundamental abilities.

The overall feedback was favorable, with numerous individuals appreciating its engaging gameplay and captivating narrative, although some critiques had been directed towards the game’s high level of challenge and restricted multiplayer functionality.

This week, it’s the west pitted against Japan, so let’s dive in!

North America / Europe

This one is quite familiar, right? It features Samus in an impressive action stance, while in the upper left corner, we spot U-Mos, the last remaining Luminoth on the planet Aether. In the lower right corner, we can faintly discern the Ing, which wonderfully symbolizes the contrasts of light and dark we experience in the game. Delightful!

Japan

Japan’s design is intriguing, particularly since it features a peculiar little release date announcement on the right side. Why..? Who can say. Otherwise, it mainly highlights Samus herself, yet the shift in colors as we proceed to the right suggests the looming presence of Dark Samus.

Additionally, it is also referred to as ‘Dark Echoes’ here, for reasons unknown!

We appreciate your votes! We’ll catch you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
