Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On The Outer Worlds 2, With Xbox The Clear Console Winner

“Impressive on Xbox, PS5 requires enhancement”

Digital Foundry has released its latest DF Tech Review – this time covering Xbox studio Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2.

Of course, we’ve integrated the video version of their evaluation above – which discusses every edition of the game, including Xbox Series X and S, as well as PS5 & PS5 Pro. Interestingly, due to PSSR (PS5 Pro’s upscaling method), the Series X variant is presently the better choice on console – with the standard PS5 falling a bit short in terms of resolution and efficiency as well.

“The Outer Worlds 2 fully embraces the Unreal Engine 5 capabilities, even though the stylized artistic approach isn’t characteristic of the engine. The outcomes are remarkable on Xbox with three distinct but very robust visual modes. Nevertheless, the performance on PlayStation 5 consoles certainly requires enhancement in several aspects.”

During our hands-on experience with the game, we observed that we utilized the Performance mode on Xbox Series X for the optimal FPS achievable. However, this analysis does highlight the visual limitations that accompany this mode – so it might be beneficial to view this prior to making your choice. We aren’t tech specialists, and we’re pleased to let the DF team handle that!

If you are interested in our overall impressions of the game — in addition to reviews from other reviewers — we’ll drop links to those below. The Outer Worlds 2 is available today in early access, with the regular edition launching on Xbox Game Pass on October 29th.
