If you’ve ever desired to curb stomp a crocodile, grapple with a grizzly bear, and push someone in front of a train all in a singular magnificent day, you can achieve that in one of the most acclaimed open-world adventures ever, Red Dead Redemption 2. However, if you prefer to experience it through the lens of a 2D fighting game, this completely insane Red Dead Redemption 2 Mortal Kombat mod is likely your finest option.

Developed by Blurbs, the identical modder/streamer who cursed us with a Red Dead Redemption 2 modification that compels you to observe the memories of NPCs you’ve eliminated, this recent mod was similarly imagined and crafted live on stream with contributions from engaging viewers, one of whom proposed the concept itself. A montage of Blurbs’ creation process can be viewed below:

Watch On

In any case, the mod accomplishes what it claims to, more or less, albeit with a distinctly clunky feel. Engage in combat with a character or creature, and the viewpoint shifts to the side as Arthur prepares to face his opponent. The mod implements a basic Mortal Kombat-like interface and introduces excessive blood effects to hits, mimicking the horrific contests found in Mortal Kombat.

Though the mod doesn’t seem to be publicly accessible, it remains a delightful experience to observe Arthur Morgan annihilate a random cowboy, curb stomp a crocodile, and be mauled by a grizzly bear in Mortal Kombat-style confrontations. My favorite moment is Arthur exacting his highly deserved retribution against Micah by shoving him in front of a train in motion. Fatality.

My least favorite moment is Arthur’s plague cough fatality, which induces Micah to erupt fountains of blood from what seems like every pore in his body. That’s simply repulsive.

After obtaining an English degree from ASU, I was employed as a corporate copy editor while freelancing for outlets like SFX Magazine, Screen Rant, Game Revolution, and MMORPG on the side. I received my significant opportunity here in 2019 with a freelance news position, and I was brought on as GamesRadar’s west coast Staff Writer in 2021. This means I’m accountable for overseeing the site’s western regional executive division, AKA my home office, and writing about whatever horror game I’m too intimidated to complete.
