The initial Walking Dead illustrator Tony Moore is certainly familiar with horror comics, and he is now blending his frightening background with a western angle in a tale set to be featured in a fresh anthology from the recently reinstated EC Comics.

Titled Outlaw Showdown, this comic includes contributions from multiple prominent creators alongside Moore, who both pens and illustrates his segment, named ‘Fire in the Hole.’ Accompanying Moore in the anthology are writers John Arcudi, Christopher Cantwell, and Ann Nocenti, along with artists Sebastián Cabrol, David Lapham, and Dan Mcdaid. The one-shot additionally includes a reissue of a classic EC tale by the iconic writer Harvey Kurtzman and equally esteemed artist Jack Davis.

We have an early sneak peek of panels from Moore’s narrative, along with a glance at the issue’s covers created by Moore himself as well as artists Lee Bermejo and Ladrönn. Have a look:

“Crafted and illustrated by the renowned Tony Moore (The Walking Dead, Battle Pope), ‘Fire in the Hole’ indulges in treachery, demise, and dismemberment that you will never forget,” states the official synopsis of Moore’s tale. “Thus, if you’re courageous enough to gaze upon it, proceed with caution, because ‘Fire in the Hole’ may not be appropriate for the eyes of the timid or those deemed cowardly!”

EC Comics was a historic Golden Age publisher notable for horror, sci-fi, and various other captivating comics with a frequently macabre twist. The publisher ceased operations in the ’50s due to a moral panic surrounding the increasingly shocking content of mainstream comics, which resulted in the establishment of the enduring comics code of publishing standards. EC has since been revitalized as an imprint of Oni Comics.

Outlaw Showdown #1 is set to be released on October 22. Take a look at our selections for the greatest horror comics of all time.
