One of the finest games from this Steam Next Fest received numerous update notes for its trial version. Motorslice, which the creator Regular Studio claims is “inspired by Prince of Persia, Mirror’s Edge, and Shadow of the Colossus,” is a parkour experience where players navigate a brutalist “megastructure.” To be frank, it’s quite a dismal environment to explore, and contending with seemingly sentient machinery that can eliminate you in a single blow isn’t particularly helpful either.
Yet, in spite of the oppressive ambiance, it’s undeniable that the gameplay feels marvelous, so it’s no shock that it has gained significant popularity during Steam Next Fest. With that popularity arises player insights, which the developer noted they gathered extensively in the update notes for the trial, stating, “I READ EVERY SINGLE FEEDBACK SPREAD ON THE INTERNET.”
However, these update notes also feature something distinctive, marking the first instance I’ve encountered a section labeled “EMBARRASSING” with the sole note reading “I disabled attack variation on the small excavator enemy and forgot to enable.” The remainder consists of rather standard content, including bug fixes, combat adjustments, and outlining all the minor modifications to the movement within the demo.
In reviewing it, it appears the developer’s readiness to consider feedback and integrate it has contributed to this title’s excellence, as some of these modifications (like a newly added lock-on feature and enhanced aerial control) seem vital to the current demo’s quality.
