Timothée Chalamet is commemorating his eagerly awaited return to Arrakis as the third Dune film, officially named Dune: Messiah, proceeds with its production. The actor recently posted a behind-the-scenes photo on social media which, while not showcasing much, emphasized how excited we are for the upcoming installment in the sci-fi narrative.

The threequel commenced shooting over the summer, with Chalamet reprising his role as Paul Atreides. Although the movie lacks an official plot summary at this moment, it is known that it will be inspired by Frank Herbert’s novel of the same title, which includes a 12-year interval from the events of Dune: Part Two.

Most information remains largely undisclosed, but Chalamet has provided fans with something to anticipate through this new image uploaded on his Instagram account. In the photograph, he is depicted standing against a stunning sunset. He is not wearing his costume and no details regarding the forthcoming film are unveiled here, so don’t attempt to search for hints.

The sole text alongside the image states: “Dun3 loading…”

As previously mentioned, not much is verified about Dune 3 just now. Chalamet and Zendaya are both returning to the central cast, with Florence Pugh returning as Princess Irulan, alongside other notable names like Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, among others. Anya Taylor-Joy, who was briefly showcased in Dune: Part Two, will finally make her appearance as Alia Atreides in the upcoming movie.

Additionally, several new faces are entering the cast, including Robert Pattinson, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, and Ida Brooke.

Speaking exclusively to GamesRadar+, Rebecca Ferguson affirmed that she has a minor role as Lady Jessica in the film, despite the character not appearing in the original book. “Yeah! I am in it. Small. Dip in and out, because I’m not in the books. So I wasn’t counting on it,” she recalled. “Denis [Villeneuve] called me and said, ‘Why do I have a feeling you think you’re not in the movie?’ And I responded, ‘Because I’m not in the books?’ And he said, ‘No, mate, I have a couple of scenes…’.”

Dune Messiah is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026. In the meantime, take a look at our guide to all the most thrilling upcoming films still to be released in 2025.
