By “An unforgettable chilling game that will linger in your mind”
You may have noticed that Microsoft revealed a slew of new titles for Xbox Game Pass earlier this week, and the one capturing the most attention here at Pure Xbox (based on the figures we’re observing) is The Casting of Frank Stone.
No shocker there! On paper, this title appears incredibly exciting for enthusiasts of narrative-driven games, horror experiences, and the Dead by Daylight universe, being presented to us by Supermassive Games known for Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures, and The Quarry. Nonetheless, the critiques haven’t been exceptionally positive for this one.
On Metacritic, The Casting of Frank Stone boasts an average score of 68, while its Steam rating stands at “Mixed” as of this writing. We assigned it a “Good” 7/10 in our review of the game last September, commending its “captivating popcorn horror experience” yet acknowledging that it doesn’t quite measure up to titles like Until Dawn and The Quarry.
“If you’ve experienced nearly any Supermassive title in the past — from Until Dawn to The Quarry — you’ll have an idea of what to anticipate from The Casting of Frank Stone. This Dead by Daylight connection doesn’t quite reach the outstanding levels of those two titles in particular, but it comes quite close, providing an enthralling popcorn horror experience along the way. We would have gladly taken a few additional hours in this universe, which certainly speaks volumes, but ultimately leaves The Casting of Frank Stone just shy of brilliance.”
In other words, we believe it’s wise to approach The Casting of Frank Stone with somewhat tempered expectations if you’ve already enjoyed those other Supermassive Games titles previously, but there’s still a strong chance you’ll find enjoyment in your experience.
