The recent editions of Pet Sematary, Christine, and Cujo were initially released separately in 2024. It’s important to mention that despite the 50% markdown, the box set is slightly more expensive than purchasing them individually—mainly because the Classic King editions qualify for the B2G1 offer. Nonetheless, you’ll miss out on the attractive display box.

Considering the “Box Set 1” label, it’s rational to assume there will be at least one more compilation in the series. Although not formally announced, we speculate Box Set 2 will include the Classic King editions of Misery, The Dead Zone, and Firestarter. All three were released in August and also fall under the B2G1 free offer.

Cujo stands as the oldest novel among the three. Released in 1981, the chilling horror tale centers around a rabid Saint Bernard. It’s a swift, engaging read that is infamously recognized as a book King doesn’t recall writing because of his struggles with addiction. The author disclosed this detail in his exceptional 2000 memoir On Writing, which is essential reading for all King enthusiasts and is broadly seen as one of the finest writing guides for fiction authors.

Pet Sematary, one of the writer’s most recognized books, epitomizes “classic King.” Set in Maine, as many King novels are, the horror story revolves around the titular cemetery for pets that was constructed on ancient burial sites. According to legend, burying a pet there will result in its return from the grave. Protagonist Louis Creed witnesses this firsthand when the family cat, named Church, is struck by a car. Although Church comes back to life, he is not the same beloved cat they knew. Regrettably, Louis fails to learn from this experience, and the situation only deteriorates.

Pet Sematary was one of two full-length King novels released in 1983. The other was Christine, a supernatural horror story about a possessed Plymouth Fury. Christine is more of a mid-tier novel rather than one of King’s classics. The somewhat absurd premise detracts from what is otherwise a narrative featuring an intriguing cast of characters. It is certainly an enjoyable read and qualifies as a “classic” from a historical standpoint, but it’s the least strong of the three in this collection.
