Code Vein 2, the upcoming anime Soulslike from Bandai Namco, has unveiled a substantial four-minute storyline trailer.

The publisher initially showcased this in a private screening at the Tokyo Game Show, but it has since made it accessible to the general audience. When we viewed it originally, we found it challenging to comprehend due to it being in Japanese, but watching it in English hasn’t really clarified things.

The game undeniably possesses a rich atmosphere, appearing to represent a significant leap in production quality from its already very successful predecessor.

Here’s what the publisher shares regarding it:

“The trailer offers an in-depth exploration of the realm of Code Vein 2 where players assume the role of the Revenant Hunter to thwart the Resurgence, a catastrophic occurrence that jeopardizes the world’s existence. Joined by Lou MagMell, a Revenant female who resurrects the protagonist using her own heart and possesses the ability to traverse time, the Revenant Hunter sets out on a quest to reshape history and salvage the world. The trailer also emphasizes the profound connections among Revenants, presents new characters and vocal performances, and showcases a striking original score crafted by Go Shiina, unfolding a poignant narrative influenced by destiny, sacrifice, and choice.”

Bandai Namco states that this game will heavily emphasize narrative, where “players and characters are intertwined through blood, fate, and destiny, situated in a future where the final remnants of humanity and Revenants contest against a world on the brink of collapse”.

Despite this strong focus on story, players will have the opportunity to design their own character “with an extensive range of options for body shape, hairstyle, facial expressions, accessories, makeup, and beyond”.

We haven’t yet had the opportunity to try this one ourselves, but its launch date is scheduled for 30th January, and we have a hunch it’s going to be unexpectedly very popular.
