The response varies slightly in both instances
In July, it was confirmed by UK retailer The Game Collection that Oblivion Remastered would receive a physical version for Xbox Series X (and PS5), however, they could not verify if the game would come on-disc or otherwise.
Recently, they received inventory at their warehouse for both Xbox and PlayStation models, and they’ve gone out of their way by testing each one – informing customers that they can still cancel their pre-orders if they are not content.
The scenario is this – according to the PEGI variant, it comprises 19.06GB on-disc for the PS5 release which enables you to initiate the game offline before being requested to download the remainder, whereas the Xbox version seemingly necessitates an internet connection right from the outset (but we still presume it contains a comparable amount on-disc).

This is undeniably not the most favorable situation in either instance, but honestly, we were never anticipating Oblivion Remastered to fit onto a single disc given the substantial file size on the Xbox Store (over 120GB).
It’s yet another illustration of a physical release acting more as an access key rather than a wholly-contained product, and nowadays it’s far more typical than having an entire game on a disc. Honestly, it feels as though physical media has never truly been the same since the conclusion of the Xbox 360 / PS3 era and the onset of the Xbox One / PS4 era.
The positive aspect is that Oblivion Remastered isn’t priced higher physically compared to its digital counterpart, so you can choose whichever version you prefer. It’s available for pre-order now at The Game Collection, Amazon US, and numerous other retailers, and you are looking at approximately £39.99 / $39.99 based on where you purchase it.
