The Switch 2 commenced with a remarkable launch, and we now have some additional details regarding the system’s sales in the US.

As per Circana’s Mat Piscatella, Nintendo’s latest hybrid console moved 2.4 million units within its initial three months on the market (from June to August), positioning the system five percent ahead of the PlayStation 4’s former “record-breaking pace”, which achieved 2.2 million units in the identical time frame.

“With 2.4M units sold LTD over its first 3 months on the market, Nintendo Switch 2 now stands 5% in front of the previous record-setting pace of PlayStation 4, which moved 2.2M units during the 3 months ending January 2014.”

Piscatella additionally emphasizes how these sales were able to counter “double-digit percentage declines” across the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch. Furthermore, the Switch 2’s unit sales are trending ahead of “time-aligned sales” of Nintendo’s original hybrid console.

“Nintendo Switch 2 unit sales are trending 77% ahead of the time-aligned sales of the original Nintendo Switch.”

Nintendo’s financial results in August had earlier verified that Switch 2 hardware sales surpassed “6 million units globally” within the seven weeks following launch. They also provided a regional breakdown of Switch 2 hardware sales for this timeframe.

Regarding the best-selling games in the US in August, Donkey Kong Bananza reached the top 10, securing seventh place (down from the third position last month). However, this ranking does not account for the game’s digital sales.
