Following months of quietude, we have received a fresh update regarding Manor Lords, the successful city construction game from Slavic Magic. This release introduces a new Beta for players to experience, showcasing significant enhancements, along with a clarification for the previous lack of updates from the team.

The most recent communication from Manor Lords came in July, when a development blog detailed several forthcoming alterations and improvements. Since then, not much has unfolded, and today’s announcement commences with an apology, attributing a misalignment of priorities to the team’s expansion.

“I apologize for the prolonged wait this time,” starts Grzegorz ‘Greg’ Styczeń, the originator and sole developer of the game before the studio’s expansion. “I am reconsidering what went amiss to ensure it won’t occur again. I concentrated on enlarging the development team and inadvertently confronted too many issues simultaneously.”

“Currently, to the left of my screen within the engine window, is a graveyard filled with features that failed to materialize and were ultimately discarded,” he proceeds. “I required alignment of visions with the new designers, and the new programmers familiarizing themselves with the codebase (which was essentially a massive solo developer’s tangle) also caused numerous complications.”

He discusses the roadmap, suggesting it’s geared towards more frequent, smaller modifications, rather than extensive updates. In the meantime, he outlines the current Beta, which features new maps, improved AI-controlled characters and settlements, and an overhauled progression system, among other exciting elements.

The other AI-operated leaders are not yet able to attack you, but the towns they create are now more refined and feel more organic. Progression has become more “thematic,” with indications that the decisions will be more complex and less straightforward.

Overall, the project has gained depth across various aspects. There are increased demographic types, resources are segmented into distinct components, and there are enhanced tools for monitoring your advancement. These improvements complement a multitude of quality-of-life enhancements.
