Dynasty Warriors 3 Remake

Ah, the traditional tactic of urging fans to purchase your forthcoming title — or there simply won’t be another.

That’s the method Koei Tecmo is utilizing for the Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, it seems.

The remaster — which is truly more akin to a remake — was revealed during the latest State of Play, set for release in March 2026.

This revival surprised some, as numerous fans speculated that the developer would choose to recreate the more acclaimed Dynasty Warriors 4 or Dynasty Warriors 5.

However, beginning with 3, which has a somewhat uncomplicated design, makes some sense given the viewpoint of series producer Tomohiko Sho.

In a discussion with Japanese publication Denfaminicogamer (as translated by Automaton), Sho clarifies that remaking a PS2 title is actually a surprisingly expensive venture — particularly when the aim is to transition everything to a new engine and implement various gameplay enhancements.

It’s “incredibly challenging to accomplish”, he remarks.

Yet, due to the considerable effort involved in development, Sho acknowledges that the Dynasty Warriors 3 remake must be successful if there’s to be any possibility for future remake initiatives.

“If this title fails, there won’t be another, so we’re eagerly anticipating your backing,” he quite candidly expresses.

Sho also confirms that, at the moment of the discussion, no further plans exist for additional remakes or remasters. So that’s that, it seems.

He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are where his true enthusiasm lies. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played them all. Perhaps even too much, some might argue.
