Grace’s selection
Resident Evil Requiem, likely inspired by the additional DLC for Resident Evil: Village, will permit gamers to select between two camera viewpoints for the primary campaign: first-person and third-person.
As per director Koshi Nakanishi, who also directed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, he believed that the seventh installment could have been a tad too terrifying for certain players. Therefore, he opted to integrate a third-person viewpoint into Requiem to possibly lessen some of the fright.
In a fascinating new twist, however, it appears that recent demonstrations of the game at both Gamescom and TGS show that Japanese and Western players possess varying preferences.

In conversation with Denfaminicogamer (thanks, Automaton), Nakanishi hypothesizes that Western gamers tend to favor the first-person viewpoint due to growing up with FPS titles like DOOM. Japanese gamers, conversely, have likely spent more time with third-person titles such as Dragon Quest.
This isn’t a definitive science, obviously, and Nakanishi also believes that as younger players in Japan are increasingly engaging with first-person games like Minecraft and Apex Legends, the prevailing trend may begin to evolve. As for us, we maintain that third-person Resident Evil titles such as RE2 and RE4 are generally more pleasant than the first-person escapades.
But what about your stance? Do you have a preference? Or will you experiment with both and determine which one resonates more? Share your thoughts by participating in the poll below and leaving a comment.
