Gearbox Software has officially unveiled the initial post-launch playable character arriving in Borderlands 4, known as C4SH, who resembles the offspring of an unremarkable cowboy and the Grim Reaper.

Unveiled during the Tokyo Game Show 2025, C4SH will feature in the game’s inaugural storyline pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, anticipated for release early next year. There is no information yet regarding the price of the DLC individually, but for now, it is bundled in the game’s Super Deluxe Edition. Check out this brief teaser.

“A roll of the dice, a flip of a card, a spin of bullets in a chamber—these are some of the unpredictable possibilities that intrigue C4SH, the first of two new Vault Hunters destined for Borderlands 4,” the description of the video states. “This Story Pack is part of the numerous additions listed in our Post-Launch Roadmap, and includes various main and side quests set in a new region of Kairos, the fresh Vault Hunter C4SH, new equipment to acquire, and a plethora of new cosmetics to gather.”

Borderlands 4’s creative leader Graeme Timmins took to social media to say “I adore this guy’s loadout and am eager to reveal more!”

In other news, Gearbox recently mentioned that they have “too many Vault Hunter enhancements” in development, aiming to launch another update in the upcoming week.

Gearbox recognizes that certain Borderlands 4 players “are facing decreased stability” following the new update, but states that “stuttering issues are expected to resolve over time” and suggests players endure for 15 minutes to see if it dissipates.
