Talking Point: So, Did You End Up Pre-Ordering The ROG Xbox Ally?

Have you taken the plunge? Or is it too pricey?

After many weeks of eagerly awaiting further updates from Microsoft, the team finally announced pre-orders for its two ROG Xbox Ally gadgets last week, disclosing its pricing structure for various regions worldwide. So, the question arises: did you opt to pre-order one when they became accessible?

We say “when they became accessible” rather loosely, to be frank. Pre-orders commenced at a rather unusual hour for particular regions (in the wee hours here in the UK), and we’ve already noticed several retailers deplete their inventory here, specifically for the more robust ROG Xbox Ally X device. That seems to be the one people are gravitating towards at the moment!

That said, pricing appears to be a significant concern at the moment, especially for the stronger of the two gadgets. Nearly $1000 is a hefty demand in the present landscape, and we’re seeing individuals reference Phil Spencer’s 2024 remarks on not expanding the market with $1000 consoles. Yet, that’s the one that’s flying off the shelves right now, so we’ll have to wait and see how it unfolds!

Naturally, ROG Xbox Ally likely isn’t designed to ‘expand the market’; these portable PCs serve more as a fresh alternative rather than something that compares to a conventional console generation. They appear targeted at the avid gamer currently, which is precisely why we want to investigate if our passionate Pure Xbox audience has been lured into purchasing one yet!

Let us know if you’ve pre-ordered the ROG Xbox Ally in the poll above, and engage with us further in the comments below.
