One of the most exciting aspects of this generation has been how certain titles have seemingly emerged unexpectedly. Consider this year’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, for instance – it’s a completely new game created by a new team and has made waves in the industry.

Kudos to Project Renegade: The Becoming – this Resident Evil-themed single-player action narrative could be one to keep an eye on.

This title is being crafted by the Chinese studio Invercity Game Works, a team about which we cannot find any further information.

However, it appears incredibly intriguing – it’s a classic third-person shooter outfitted with gun-fu features, so instead of merely blasting zombies like in many games, you’ll be juggling your ammo and performing acrobatics.

Here’s how the official synopsis presents the storyline:

“In 1995, humanity’s final chance – Project Retrograde – crumbled as the underground world was shattered by the ancient parasite L.U.C.A. Assume the role of a bounty hunter bonded with the parasite, wielding its perilous power to rescue the world, even if it consumes you.”

As indicated earlier, you’ll be enhanced with parasitic abilities, which you’ll be able to improve throughout the journey to augment your combat skills.

“Explore the post-apocalyptic landscape brimming with retro technology. Manipulate the LUX system to modify subterranean weather, or ascend towers to reach uncharted territories and unveil the truth concealed for years.”

There’s no official release date yet, but the game is expected to launch on PS5, and it seems like it could really be testing Sony’s system.

While it’s evident that this game has drawn heavy inspiration from Resident Evil, it appears to be yet another Chinese title that boasts some quite impressive production standards. There are quite a few of them surfacing at the moment, aren’t there?
