Break & rush
- by Sammy Barker
Today, there was a discussion panel regarding RGG Studio’s forthcoming Virtua Fighter reboot at the Tokyo Game Show, but honestly, we didn’t glean much fresh information from it.
The game – which is still quite early in its development stage – will incorporate conventional combat rules where you’ll aim to reduce your rival’s health, alongside a new feature dubbed Uprising that guarantees “dynamic momentum-shifting chances”. So, that’s something.
Additionally, the game will unveil a completely new element named Break & Rush.
Here’s the developer’s explanation, translated by Gematsu:
“This groundbreaking system presents a dynamic damage accumulation feature. As particular areas of the body endure repeated strikes, damage accumulates, ultimately permitting a specific break. When the attacker successfully executes a break attack, they secure a tactical advantage, revealing new offensive possibilities. The broken state persists throughout rounds, introducing a strategic layer that enhances depth and tension to every duel.”
While there isn’t an abundance of information available just yet, it appears RGG Studio is earnestly attempting to revitalize the 3D fighting genre, instead of merely traversing well-trodden paths. We’re in favor of that.
