Microsoft Announces New Price Increases For Xbox Series X|S In The US

“We are navigating an incredibly dynamic environment”

To finish off the week, Microsoft has announced that it’s increasing the prices of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the United States, and these increases will apply to all versions of the two systems currently on the market.

The standard Xbox Series X with a disc drive will now jump to $649.99, while the original Xbox Series S model with a 512GB internal drive will now be priced at $399.99.

Here’s the full list of new prices, along with a comparison showing what they were before:

Model Old Price New Price
Xbox Series X $599.99 $649.99
Xbox Series S (512GB) $379.99 $399.99
Xbox Series S (1TB) $429.99 $449.99
Xbox Series X Digital $549.99 $599.99
Xbox Series X Galaxy Black 2TB $729.99 $799.99

Microsoft says the reason behind the new prices is due to “the changing macroeconomic environment”.

Here’s a short statement that was shared with Windows Central earlier today:

“We are navigating an incredibly dynamic environment right now. We’ve assessed the changing macroeconomic environment and addressed the applicable impacts.”

All of the above changes will come into effect as of October 3rd, and the company says the price of the consoles in other markets will remain the same.

Finally, Microsoft has acknowledged the “challenging” nature of the price increases in another short statement:

“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players.”

As you may recall, Xbox previously raised the price of consoles, games and accessories across multiple regions back in May, so there’s been a significant cost increase for the Series X and S over the past few months.
