Final Fantasy 7 Remake Finally Heads To Xbox In January 2026

We have a date!!

As part of today’s bumper Nintendo Direct livestream, Square Enix has finally revealed the release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake outside of PlayStation and PC platforms. Yep, part one of FF7 Remake hits Xbox Series X|S (and Switch 2) on January 22nd, 2026 – more than five years after its original PS4 release.

The last we heard, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was actually planned for Winter 2025, but that’s now been pushed back ever so slightly here to next January instead. We’ll chuck the team’s new release date trailer up above, and a description of what to expect from FF7 Remake part one down below:

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE retells the original story of FINAL FANTASY VII up to the escape from Midgar with unforgettable characters, breathtaking visuals and epic battles, which mixes traditional command-based combat and real-time action. It also includes FF7R EPISODE INTERmission, an additional story starring Yuffie Kisaragi that offers a fresh perspective running in parallel to Cloud’s journey.

With the first portion of Square’s FF7 Remake now locked in for Xbox next January, we’re keen to know when part two arrives. A recent report suggested that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is also due for Xbox Series X|S next year, so hopefully we can almost play the first two FF7 Remake titles back-to-back on Xbox.

Before we head out, there are also some cool bonuses to be had here with the Xbox release. First off, FF7 Remake is Xbox Play Anywhere compatible — so it’ll be playable across Xbox & PC with one purchase — and also, if you buy the game before the end of January 2026, you’ll get a free copy of the original Final Fantasy 7. We’ll link to this special bundle on the Xbox Store down below!
