Update []: The ballots are tallied, and our readers have crowned the official Push Square Game of the Month. What a rush…

Roger that, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has been voted the finest PS5 experience of August 2025 by visitors to our modest site. The contest was anything but a landslide, with support splintered among a crowded field of heavy-hitters.

More than 800 ballots were submitted, spread across 14 different games (yes, August was packed). Here are the five most popular PS5 releases of August 2025, as chosen by you:

  1. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – 222 votes (28%)
  2. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance – 162 votes (20%)
  3. Sword of the Sea – 142 votes (18%)
  4. Mafia: The Old Country – 102 votes (13%)
  5. Gears of War: Reloaded – 65 votes (8%)

Delta has been embraced enthusiastically by gamers, earning stellar critical marks along the way. In fact, it’s now one of 2025’s top-scoring launches so far.

The remake adheres closely to Metal Gear Solid 3‘s blueprint, yet refreshes the experience with a contemporary over-the-shoulder camera and control sensibilities lifted from Metal Gear Solid V.

Part nostalgic voyage, part carefully crafted resurrection, it’s little wonder it captured such a hefty share of the vote.

Take a bow, Snake—once again you’ve shown you’re fit to carry the Boss title.

Original Report: After the quieter lull of June and July, the release calendar on PS5 finally hit full throttle.

For folks in our line of work—reviewing games—August turned into a whirlwind. A string of eagerly awaited titles reached Sony’s latest console, and we awarded quite a few sky-high scores.

Stand-outs included Metal Gear Solid Delta, Sword of the Sea, and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. All three earned glowing 9/10 write-ups, yet each delivers a completely distinct flavour.

First up, Delta—a remake applauded for modern polish while staying scrupulously true to a legendary original. We’ve traditionally hesitated to hand GotM honours to remasters or revamps, yet Delta is unquestionably in the running.

Sword of the Sea impressed with its silky movement and breathtaking visual direction. Positioned somewhere alongside Journey, the game establishes itself as a reflective triumph.

Then there’s Shinobi, an action-platformer that’s simply a blast to carve through. If July’s champion Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound didn’t already sate your 2D ninja cravings, SEGA’s reborn classic might be even sharper.

August dished out a few duds as well. Mafia: The Old Country felt weighed down by antiquated systems, while Lost Soul Aside couldn’t live up to its long development hype, falling short of the titles that inspired it.

Of course, you’re free to disagree; it’s nearly time to cast your own GotM ballot. First, though, let’s recap the 2025 monthly victors to date…

So, what’s the hold-up? Pick your PS5 Game of the Month for August in the poll and justify your choice in the comments underneath.

Polls shut at 00:00 BST on Tuesday, 9 September 2025.
