Don’t Believe the Speculation About PS5’s Fairgames Getting Cancelled
Latest: Michael Pachter Sets the Record Straight
- written Sammy Barker

Update []:
As anticipated, Pachter has walked back his claim, admitting he misspoke regarding Fairgames’ termination.
Paraphrased by former-IGN editor Destin Legarie, Pachter stated: “I misspoke. Said Jade was let go, and assumed development was halted. I haven’t any intel about the game. Feel free to quote this, I honestly know nothing.”
Hence Fairgames is, for now, still on the docket. That in itself doesn’t guarantee it’ll ever hit store shelves, of course.
Original Story: The internet is buzzing with speculation that Sony has axed Fairgames.
Not familiar with this title? No worries—Haven Studio’s co-op sandbox shooter, built around toppling billionaires, hails from Montreal and was founded by Jade Raymond before PlayStation acquired it several years back.
Unsurprisingly, Raymond has since exited the studio, and reports suggest the project has been struggling.
The platform holder ran limited alpha testing not long ago, and feedback was overwhelmingly critical—allegedly spurring in-house turnover.
The cancellation chatter appears to have originated from a recent episode of Pachter Factor, during which outspoken analyst Michael Pachter discussed Sony’s pivot to live-service titles.
“They converted every studio to make a live-service experience,” he notes. “But that led to Concord getting shuttered along with its team, which then saw Jade Raymond dismissed and [Fairgames] killed.”
We believe Pachter simply conflated Raymond’s exit with the game’s demise, which doesn’t appear accurate.
When speaking to Bloomberg following Raymond’s departure, a PlayStation representative declared that the company is “committed to supporting Haven Studios and eager to continue the adventure.”
So, yes, Fairgames isn’t shaping up as smoothly as Sony hoped, and cancellation further down the road can’t be ruled out. As of press time, though, the project remains officially in development.
We’ll follow up with the platform owner, and post any fresh details we receive.
