The intrusive “download mandatory” strip is finally missing
Ever since Game-Key Cards debuted for the Switch 2, chatter about third-party cartridges versus codes hasn’t slowed. Even back on the original Switch, plenty of so-called “disc” editions left owners with nothing more than a redemption voucher rather than the actual data.
There are, however, publishers that still care, and today brings one pleasant example: Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Trilogy has—after years—been issued as a complete physical cartridge for the first-gen Switch.
This tidbit turned up in an Amazon listing whose cover art now omits the tiny strip warning about a compulsory download. Per the same page, the cart shipped late last month, while the older “code-in-box” variant remains on the site (hat-tip to Nintendo Everything). Check the side-by-side images in the post below:
Still only one retailer listing, yet it has already ignited excitement among players desperate for a no-download version of the compilation. If the listing holds true, the cartridge should also carry the fresh patches from Video Games Deluxe who stepped in after Grove Street Games.
We’ll keep monitoring for official word and update you accordingly. Would a sturdy, code-free version tempt you to double-dip on Switch? Sound off below.
