Rumour: It Looks Like Ubisoft Is Making A ‘Dark, Absurd’ Far Cry TV Show

And it could be an anthology

We’ve long loved Far Cry 3, not only for its lush tropical open world and great gameplay mechanics, but also for its engaging story and captivating characters. Of course, the most famous of those is the game’s utterly insane villain, Vaas – and it sounds as though Ubisoft is taking his traits and adapting them into an upcoming TV show.

Seemingly leaked via a Ubisoft website before being pulled (and reported on by Eurogamer), a Far Cry TV adaptation is said to be in the works at FX. Here’s what Margaret Boykin — head of film and TV content at Ubisoft — reportedly said of the show before it was taken offline (presumably for being released too early):

“This collaboration is really an embarrassment of riches. Far Cry a psychological tailspin that doesn’t shy away from the darkest and most absurd parts of humanity, which aligns perfectly with FX’s bold and fearless storytelling style,”

This Far Cry TV series is also set to be an “anthology” where “each season will be set in a new world with a different cast of characters following the video game franchise’s signature standalone storytelling format”. Ubisoft has yet to publicly comment on the show again since news of it was pulled from their website – but presumably we’ll hear about it officially soon.

This is all pretty interesting to us – especially if the team can capture the very best of the Far Cry series. While Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed movie hardly set the world alight, we’ve seen recent video game TV adaptations like Fallout and The Last of Us do incredibly well, so there’s hope for these sorts of translations yet. We’ll have to wait and see if Ubisoft formally announces this one in the coming weeks.
