Process “ran remarkably well,” according to team behind it

Beginning on 12th August, Hellblade 2 finally leaps over from Xbox Series X|S to PS5, and in a brief clip from Ninja Theory the U.K. studio insists the conversion was surprisingly simple and stress-free.
The 2024 original targets Xbox Series X|S and was built inside Unreal Engine 5, which already delivers what Gavin Costello, technical director, calls top-notch PlayStation 5 support. Once the PS5 build compiled without drama, Ninja Theory’s tools crew began collecting overnight snapshots of the title so that content designers could jump in immediately.
“We’ve got an in-house tool named Self Play that can barrel through the entire campaign while linked to profile utilities,” Costello noted. “That let us certify a full, uninterrupted play-through early on and map out performance hotspots. It put us in a strong place right at the start.”
The lone speed-bump surfaced when beefing up the game for PS5 Pro; the shipped Unreal Engine build had yet to be updated for Sony’s mid-gen refresh. Once the team cherry-picked and retro-fitted supporting features, PSSR sprang to life.
“All told, shipping Hellblade 2 on PlayStation 5 proved to be a breeze,” Gavin Costello wrapped up in the clip. “That freed us to lean into extra content and the new performance mode.”
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 lands on PS5 tomorrow, bringing with it a fresh 60 fps Performance Mode amid a cinematic showcase that, according to our 6/10 review, “has little to offer beyond audiovisual splendour.” We ultimately wrote: “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 excels as an audio-visual spectacle but stumbles as a game to actually play.”
