The brass ensemble

Underwater Fire’s development team, together with publisher First Break Labs, have just unveiled a fresh narrative trailer for their forthcoming puzzle-adventure title Particle Hearts. In one word: stunning.

The adventure casts you as The Drifter, an enigmatic horn-bearing being composed entirely of glittering particles, who treks across a brutal realm… that’s also fashioned from particles. There’s a veritable avalanche of pixels on screen, yet the distinctive style is eye-catching; if the Switch can handle the performance, it should be a visual treat.

We still have no real clue about The Drifter’s identity or strengths—you’ll lean on its power to bend particles in order to crack puzzles, dodge hostiles, and win over wildlife, all while piecing together what’s really going on: Who exactly are you? Why the headgear? And why does absolutely everything feel so… glimmer-grainy?

Below is a bullet list of headline features lifted straight from the game’s Steam page, plus a couple of screenshots:

  • Unlock a suite of skills that let you warp and weave the surrounding particles.
  • Apply these powers to crack riddles, slip past antagonists, and uncover secret zones.
  • Roam sprawling worlds the way you prefer.
  • Follow a tale where allies and adversaries swap roles in the blink of an eye; encounter numerous beings who help you decipher why you exist in this place.

It’s shaping up to be surprisingly compelling, and we’re keen to watch these enigmas unfold. Good news: the wait is almost over—Particle Hearts lands on Switch on 25th August.

What’s your take on Particle Hearts? Planning to grab it later this month? Sound off in the comments.
