Game of the Month: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound (July 2025)

Update []: You voted, and the results have been tallied: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is your PS5 Game of the Month for July 2025.
The vote was a close run thing, with several titles leading the charge — but it was The Game Kitchen’s glorious take on old school Ninja Gaiden that got the job done.
Over 600 votes were cast, spread across a total of 13 games. These are the top five PS5 releases of July 2025, according to readers of Push Square:
- Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound – 142 votes (23%)
- Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – 112 votes (18%)
- Ready or Not – 100 votes (16%)
- RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business – 96 votes (16%)
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 – 72 votes (12%)
For those who may not realise, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound’s aforementioned developer, The Game Kitchen, also crafted the fantastic Blasphemous games — and so the quality of this retro revival was almost never in doubt.
And to the studio’s credit, it really did produce something quite special. Ragebound does an amazing job of blending that classic side-scrolling feel with much more modern design sensibilities. Oh, and it looks damn good too.
We gave it a ‘great’ 8/10 in our Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound PS5 review, concluding that it “brings the series back to its roots with incredible style”.
And so there you have it, our official Game of the Month for July 2025. Ryu Hayabusa himself will be celebrating this win.
Original Story: Man, if you thought June was quiet, wait until we recap the PS5 games that came out in July!
Okay, that’s a bit harsh. July actually had a fairly busy release schedule — it’s just that there were very few heavy hitters in the mix. As such, last month was a good time to be a fan of indie titles, with a glut of smaller games battling it out for our attention.
We had Anger Foot, The Wandering Village, Time Flies, and Wheel World all launching to positive reviews — each of them offering up something completely different. Creativity remains the lifeblood of the indie scene.
What about those aforementioned heavy hitters, then? Well, July’s higher profile titles included the likes of anticipated remaster Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, and curious Soulslike Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
In fact, the latter was probably the most talked-about release of the month, but lukewarm reviews from both critics and players seem to have slammed the brakes on Wuchang’s momentum.
By contrast, everyone seems to love Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. The side-scrolling action platformer strikes a fantastic balance between retro brutality and more modern design choices, resulting in an easy fan favourite.
Beyond that, RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business is worth a shout, it being a standalone kind of mini-sequel to 2023’s dumb but incredibly fun Rogue City. Oh, and let’s not forget about Ready or Not — the tactical shooter that hit big with fans of more realistic military encounters.
Anyway, it’s almost time to vote for your Game of the Month. But before we move on to the poll, here’s a quick recap of our winners for 2025 so far…
