What has Bethesda been working on?
- by Ben Kerry
Last week, we shared a report that Starfield could be getting a new expansion alongside a PS5 release in 2026 – and a new game update from Bethesda hints that more big features could be coming in the meantime.
Basically, last night, a tiny Starfield patch went live on Xbox and PC – containing some changes to the Creations and Missions menus alongside some general bug fixes and stability updates. There wasn’t a lot to it – but a fan has then gone digging into the game’s new code; finding some curious mentions about ‘cruising’ in ships.

The Reddit post notes that this relates to space travel, not seamless landing on planets. The user also says that the top image showcases random encounters being activated during this interplanetary travel – hinting that it’s something Bethesda may be working on in the background here as it plots the future of Starfield.
This is just PC code though and is not something listed in yesterday’s tiny patch – but the timing of its discovery is interesting. As we mentioned up at the top, rumours are swirling at the moment about a PS5 version of the game and a second expansion for all platforms – which is a potential announcement we’re keeping out eye out for in the coming weeks and months here at Pure Xbox.
Thoughts on all of this, Starfield fans? Tell us what you make of this post-patch discovery down below.
