Opinion: This Month On Xbox Is Stacked, Including A Few First-Party Treats

A peaceful August? No way!

We’ve officially slipped into August 2025; once upon a time that would’ve signalled the last “quiet” gap ahead of when the videogame timetable revved up for the year-end blitz. These days, fresh titles stream out nearly non-stop every four weeks—and this newest one is no exception! From my perspective, August 2025 is shaping up exceptionally well, stacked with heavy hitters that line up perfectly with what I love.

First up on my personal calendar is the updated build of Ninja Theory’s Hellblade II. That story-driven beast already looked stunning last year, though its 30 FPS cap admittedly dulled my enthusiasm. That hesitation evaporates on August 12 when the forthcoming Enhanced Edition swoops in—so yeah, it’s now perched near the summit of my August wish-list. Brilliant!

Seven days later the free-to-play launch of Delta Force drops—a brash, explosive military shooter that’s been on my radar since day one. Battlefield 6 has since been unveiled and it looks spectacular, yet Delta Force wants to go toe-to-toe with that brand of mayhem a full couple of months earlier—and for zero dollars. Mark it, people: DF could really prove a dark-horse knockout.

August 20 then heralds the wildly awaited Xbox debut of Black Myth: Wukong. The title blew up worldwide twelve months ago, racking up phenomenal sales on PC and PS5, while Xbox owners were left out amid a swirl of controversy. In less than a month we’ll finally understand the hype, and I’m absolutely buzzing for it.

To cap it all off, the month’s tail-end hurls a three-way showdown that’ll make picking my next play almost impossible. August 26 sees Xbox and PlayStation actually crossing swords with the simultaneous arrivals of Gears of War: Reloaded and Helldivers 2, before Konami throws its own grenade only 48 hours later via the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Honestly, who decided summer had to chill out?

So yeah—color me thrilled for what lies ahead on Xbox. There’s a feast of games that scratch every itch I have, and while that’s obviously my own opinion, I reckon the platform is poised for an amazing August. Ben handles news on Pure Xbox and loves brawling, racing, and plain old blasting in whatever Xbox adventure comes his way. When he’s not hugging a controller for dear life, he listens to music that’s embarrassingly retro, screams at football on the box, and most likely scarfs food somewhere.
