As Nintendo’s most recent Partner Showcase drew to a close, Square Enix unveiled several upcoming ventures, and among them was the fresh HD-2D release The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales.
This action-role-playing adventure abandons the slow, turn-based scraps seen in some other entries in favor of real-time brawls. The project is helmed by Team Asano, the studio that brought us the likes of Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default.
If it flew under your radar, a sampler is currently up on Switch 2 and various other platforms; Square Enix is gently reminding everyone alongside a sneak peek at what awaits if you haven’t jumped in yet:

The “Intro Demo” exists to convey the feel of exploration and combat you’ll meet in the full release—so expect crunchy fights, gloomy caverns and scattered secrets begging to be found.
Spot a fragile wall? Shatter it to bits with a well-placed bomb and you may uncover an optional Treasure Tunnel—a bite-sized labyrinth packed with lavish spoils.
Keep an eye out for a Shrine of Life while you’re at it; these side trials push both your sword arm and acrobatics to the limit. You might walk away with magicite or cold hard coin. The game simply loves inquisitive players.
Alternatively, chase the quest markers into a treacherous marsh and descend into the Unexplored Ruins below. This multi-story delve is packed with peril—apply every trick you’ve learned to come out alive.
Square Enix has also opened a short feedback questionnaire where you can share your impressions—the devs will mine the responses to “help shape the finished product.” Expect questions regarding your interest level, how you discovered the demo, which difficulty you chose, plus a few open-ended prompts.
