Oblivion Remastered Dev Hit With Layoffs As Company ‘Restructures’ In 2025

Asia the most impacted region

Regrettably, I must relay more unfortunate news, as it was revealed today that Oblivion Remastered developer Virtuos has experienced significant layoffs — impacting staff across Asia and Europe.

Following earlier reports today, Eurogamer secured an official statement from the studio, confirming that 7% of the workforce has been affected by these reductions. We will include the team’s statement regarding this matter below:

“We appreciate the contributions of those affected. We are offering severance packages, career transition support, and opportunities for redeployment within our global network where feasible. The company’s immediate aim is to manage this transition with care, openness, and dignity,”

“We will persist in investing in global delivery, technical excellence, and innovative collaboration, ensuring that Virtuos remains the preferred associate for the world’s premier game developers,”

We express our gratitude to our teams, partners, and colleagues for their ongoing support as Virtuos evolves to shape the future of game development.”

Although Virtuos did lead the production of Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered — which debuted back in April — “fewer than 10” employees were released from that French team. Additionally, 70 positions were eliminated in other European branches, while approximately 200 jobs were lost in the Asia region.

Virtuos is a sizable studio that collaborates on other titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta remake; projects that will likely be influenced by today’s updates. We wish the best for anyone who has lost their positions and hope they find new opportunities swiftly.
