Amazon has replenished its Prime Day offer on Final Fantasy I-VI Collection Anniversary Edition for Nintendo Switch. The collection of six games is now available for $45 (previously $75) on Switch, but the offer concludes tonight when Prime Day wraps up (12 AM PT). The PlayStation 4 version remains available as well, and Amazon has reduced the price by a few additional dollars; PlayStation players can acquire a copy for $42.74.

Launched last October for Switch and PlayStation, the Anniversary Edition features a sticker sheet of Final Fantasy character sprites. It is important to note that this is a genuine physical release, including all six Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters on the Switch cartridge or PS4 disc (fully compatible with PS5). Square Enix initially issued the physical version in 2023, but the limited print run sold out very quickly. The re-release last fall made the collection available at major retailers for the first time as the Anniversary Edition.

Final Fantasy I-VI Collection Anniversary Edition encompasses the Pixel Remasters of the following titles:

  • Final Fantasy I (NES, 1987)
  • Final Fantasy II (NES, 1988)
  • Final Fantasy III (Famicom, 1990)
  • Final Fantasy IV (SNES, 1991)
  • Final Fantasy V (SNES, 1992)
  • Final Fantasy VI (SNES, 1994)

Each of the six games received extensive graphical and audio enhancements for the Pixel Remaster series. Square Enix redesigned the sprites using the original pixel art as a blueprint. Series composer Nobuo Uematsu oversaw the development of the rearranged soundtracks. Players can also experience the games with the original soundtracks, but the rearranged versions are excellent.

Numerous quality-of-life improvements were incorporated, including quick save, customizable text fonts, experience multipliers, auto-battling, the option to disable random encounters, and additional features. Players can also explore the in-game bestiary and illustration gallery as well as enjoy classic music with a music player.

Square Enix’s Pixel Remasters initiative launched on PC and mobile in the Summer of 2021, starting with the three 8-bit Final Fantasy titles and concluding with Final Fantasy VI in February 2022. This compilation was adapted for PlayStation and Switch in 2023 and made its way to Xbox Series X|S the previous September.

The original Final Fantasy III was confined to Japan until the arrival of the 3D remake for Nintendo DS. Fans in North America who have been around for a while might recall Final Fantasy VI, often regarded as the finest game in the series, being known as Final Fantasy III.

The titles can be enjoyed in any sequence, but it’s fascinating to witness how the franchise transformed from the 8-bit period on the Nintendo Entertainment System to the 16-bit era of the Super Nintendo.

If you’re a fan of classic Final Fantasy titles, you might also want to explore FF Dot: The Pixel Art of Final Fantasy. This beautiful 280-page hardcover volume provides a detailed examination of the stunning illustrations that, with the advent of Pixel Remasters, have proven to be enduring.
