May the best team win
Yesterday, it was revealed that EA Sports is working on a college basketball game for some point in the future, although details are extremely thin on the ground right now – it was just a small teaser posted on social media.
It’s definitely attracted the attention of 2K though, posting their own teaser that “the campus has been quiet for too long”, responding to someone who suggested 2K should have made a college basketball game rather than EA:
Following this, 2K issued a statement highlighting their “strong history with college hoops” and how they’re “exploring exciting new ways to bring athletes and schools to life”.
They also called themselves the “undisputed home” of basketball games:
“2K is the undisputed home of basketball gaming. We have a strong history with college hoops and are exploring exciting new ways to bring athletes and schools to life. Class is in session.”
We’ve got a rivalry brewing, then! It makes sense considering EA hasn’t made a basketball game since 2018, and 2K will be very keen to ensure nobody steals the spotlight – the ball has been in their court for a very long time now.
Hopefully we’ll find out more over the coming months, but keep in mind that EA’s College Football game took three years from announcement to release – so it sounds like both EA and 2K are looking to the future with these teases.
