We’re receiving whispers that it’s currently being developed

For quite some time, we’ve been hearing about an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake being in progress — since July 2023, in fact — and today, recent clues from one of the game’s voice performers suggest this project might still be alive. While these clues are quite ambiguous for now and Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed anything, we’re eager to find out if you would truly engage with a Black Flag remake come 2025.
Here’s that clue, by the way:
At this stage, AC4 is nearly 12 years old, and various aspects of the Xbox 360 / Xbox One game could definitely use some modernization. Nevertheless, we still believe this is one of the finest Assassin’s Creed titles in the franchise’s whole history — and we would absolutely be thrilled to set sail for some virtual piracy once more in a new remake.
There was something remarkable about how the Ubisoft team fused classic AC components with a far larger, vibrant open world. We didn’t fully enjoy the ship combat, particularly in the later stages, but Black Flag possesses a distinctive charm, and we think contemporary hardware could truly enhance the experience.
Updated versions of the AC engine would also contribute positively. This year’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows brings a substantial technological upgrade over 2023’s Mirage, which was still a cross-gen release — if a potential Black Flag remake utilized that engine, it would certainly feel a lot more contemporary come 2025. We’d definitely be on board with that… picture those deep blue waters rendered with Xbox Series X|S power!
If all of this materializes, would you participate in a Black Flag remake? Share your thoughts on this possibility with us below.
