Speculations of an Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag revival have been floating around for some time now, but the most recent clue stems from a fairly reliable source: actor Matt Ryan, who portrayed the main character Edward Kenway in the game.

As reported by VGC, Ryan was autographs at a recent event when he nonchalantly inquired of a fan if they had finished Black Flag. After the fan affirmed they had, Ryan remarked “well you might need to complete it once more”, accompanied by a grin.

He didn’t provide many details, but merely stated “There’s a reason I mention that, but I’m unable to disclose anything further”.

It doesn’t require much insight to deduce that he’s likely alluding to the speculated Black Flag revival, and Ubisoft itself has confirmed its interest in revisiting previously available titles and updating them for contemporary systems.

Black Flag was initially released on both the Wii U and the Switch (the latter as a part of the Rebel Collection) and has emerged as one of the most cherished installments in Ubisoft’s flagship series. Honestly, we would have anticipated a revival of Assassin’s Creed 2 much sooner than the fourth installment, but we can’t be dissatisfied.

Regardless, we believe there’s a considerable possibility this will surface on the Switch 2. Reports previously indicated that Assassin’s Creed Shadows would also transition to Nintendo’s latest console following an online rating, but there has been no official confirmation at the time of writing.
